Pacific Stein Sammler is a chapter of Stein Collectors International serving Washington, Oregon, Idaho and Alaska. However, our membership is open to anyone, anywhere, who has an interest in collecting beer steins or related material.

PSS was formed in 1985, has about 50 active members, and is one of 20 plus chapters throughout the U.S. and Europe. SCI, the parent organization, was founded in 1965 and has a membership that hovers around 1,100.

Pacific Stein Sammlers are genuinely nice people, Our members come from many walks of life, and our individual collecting interests are as varied as our personal backgrounds. The steins we collect run the gamut from antique to modern. While most of us are eclectic collectors, some are more focused on specialized areas like Regimental, Occupational, Character, or even Budweiser steins. Some may specialize in a single factory such as Mettlach, or J.W. Remy. Some may collect steins by a single designer such as Franz Ringer, or Killian "Karl" Beuler and others a single theme such as the Münchner Kindl (Munich Child), or... well you name it, and someone in the club probably collects it.
Why we are............... PSS meets quarterly, in March, June, September and December, with most meetings held in the Portland and Seattle areas. Meetings are friendly social gatherings, and spouses are a valued part of our chapter. We like to meet in the comfort of a member's home whenever possible, where we can view a private collection of steins, but occasionally meet in a public facility. Each meeting results in a few steins changing owners and more than a few stories being swapped.

The parent organization:

Stein Collectors International, Inc. (SCI) was founded in 1965 and is a non-profit organization dedicated to the study and understanding of the art, culture and manufacture of beer steins, drinking vessels and related items, from antiquity to modern times.

Prosit, SCI's quarterly publication, contains feature articles on beer stein related subjects, plenty of photographs, news of regional meetings, free advertisements for members in the "stein exchange", and advertisements for stein auctions, sales, and other events of interest to stein collectors. Since its founding in 1965, more than 5000 pages have been published in Prosit, including most of the historical research about artists and manufacturers of steins which has been conducted during that period.

Since its inception, SCI has grown and matured into a premier collectors club. Worldwide membership numbers approximately 1100 collectors who share a common interest in their hobby. They share enthusiasm and knowledge through membership in over 20 regional chapters.

In order to advance the state of knowledge about our favorite hobby, many members conduct research in the original methods of production and decoration, identification of manufacturer's marks and artists, and the use and meaning of the wide variety of themes and symbols which are used to decorate steins. Their contributions through articles in the quarterly collectors journal, Prosit, and chapter newsletters are a help to us all.
